The Dallas Mavericks entered the 2025 offseason facing major questions after missing the playoffs and trading Luka Doncic in February. Across the summer, the club secured Kyrie Irving on a new deal, used the draft lottery jackpot to select forward Cooper Flagg first overall, and made several smaller moves to stabilize the roster before opening night.

Key free-agent signings

Kyrie Irving re-upped for three years and $118,473,846, including a player option for 2027-28 and a 15 percent trade kicker. D’Angelo Russell joined on the taxpayer mid-level exception—two years, $11,654,250 with a 2026-27 option—giving Dallas a starting point guard while Irving recovers from the ACL tear he suffered in March. Returning guard Dante Exum accepted a one-year minimum contract, while centers Moussa Cisse and wing Matthew Cleveland signed non-guaranteed Exhibit 10 deals.

Draft and two-way additions

Winning the lottery despite 1.8 percent odds allowed Dallas to take Cooper Flagg at No. 1. The 18-year-old agreed to the standard four-year rookie scale pact worth $62,730,225. Two-way slots went to Georgia Tech guard Miles Kelly and Gonzaga guard Ryan Nembhard, each on one-year deals with $85,300 partial guarantees. One two-way opening remains for training camp competition.

Extensions and other transactions

Forward P.J. Washington secured a four-year, $88,762,440 extension that kicks in for 2026-27, while center Daniel Gafford agreed to three additional years at $54,380,289 starting the same season. The Mavericks waived and stretched 2023 first-round pick Olivier-Maxence Prosper, spreading his $3,007,080 salary over five years to ease their hard-cap crunch.

Departures

Free agents Spencer Dinwiddie (Hornets), Kessler Edwards (Nuggets), and Kai Jones (Anadolu Efes) signed elsewhere.

Current cap picture

Dallas projects roughly $204.7 million in salary, above both the $154.6 million cap and the $187.9 million tax line. The club is hard-capped at $207,824,000 and holds three frozen trade exceptions, the largest valued at $11 million.

What’s next

The 15-man roster appears set unless Dallas trades a guaranteed contract. Guard Brandon Williams has a $200,000 partial guarantee but played well late last season, reducing the likelihood of a waiver. The final two-way slot could be filled in camp, with Cisse, Cleveland, and expected signee Jamarion Sharp among the contenders.
