Trail Blazers Narrow Head-Coach Hunt to Three Finalists

The Portland Trail Blazers have reduced their coaching search to three candidates, according to Jake Fischer and Marc Stein of The Stein Line.

The finalists are Minnesota Timberwolves assistant Micah Nori, Boston Celtics assistant Tyler Lashbrook, and interim Portland coach Tiago Splitter.

Fischer and Stein reported that owner Tom Dundon—who also owns the NHL’s Carolina Hurricanes—has slowed the process because of scheduling conflicts. The Hurricanes are appearing in the Stanley Cup Final, creating additional demands on Dundon’s time.

Splitter may have the advantage of familiarity. After replacing Chauncey Billups one game into the season, the former Spurs center led Portland to a 42-39 record. The club secured a playoff berth through the Play-In Tournament before losing to San Antonio in the first round.

Nori has drawn widespread interest during the current hiring cycle and is viewed as one of the NBA’s top assistants. Lashbrook is considered a fast-rising coaching prospect within Boston’s organization.

None of the three candidates owns extensive NBA head-coaching experience, aligning with Portland’s apparent focus on emerging coaches rather than established veterans. No timetable for a final decision was disclosed.
