New York, Philadelphia and Orlando — Three Eastern Conference franchises enter the offseason with very different priorities, from legacy debates to roster spending and a coaching change.

Knicks

Hall of Famer Walt “Clyde” Frazier said guard Jalen Brunson is already entrenched in franchise lore but still needs a championship to join the franchise’s elite tier. “I always say it’s Willis (Reed), and Willis said it’s Patrick (Ewing), and Patrick says it’s Patrick,” Frazier told the Associated Press. “So he would definitely be on Mount Rushmore. We’ll put him up there if he can bring this title.”

Frazier, who helped New York capture titles in 1970 and 1973, noted how a championship transforms a player’s standing in the city. “I can’t walk the street; it’s like I’m in a parade,” he said. “If these guys win another title—man, I can’t spend money now in New York. I’ll never have to spend money again in this city.”

76ers

Philadelphia must decide whether to re-sign swingman Kelly Oubre Jr., whose energy and scoring boosted the club this season. According to Philly Voice’s Adam Aaronson, the organization is open to a new deal but must balance contract length and annual salary with an already expensive roster. The decision falls to a front office that is still shaping its long-term payroll strategy as Oubre approaches his 30s.

Magic

The Orlando Magic plan to make longtime Spurs assistant Sean Sweeney their next head coach, team president Jeff Weltman told reporters. Weltman said Sweeney’s “natural intensity” impressed the club during interviews, leading to the third coaching hire of Weltman’s tenure.

Sweeney, who was on the staff when San Antonio reached the NBA Finals, will be asked to unlock an offense featuring Paolo Banchero, Franz Wagner, Jalen Suggs and Desmond Bane. Although often labeled a defensive specialist, Weltman stressed Sweeney’s versatility: “Sean’s been an offensive coach, too. I don’t know how those tags get slapped on people.”
