New York Knicks head coach Mike Brown said his history with San Antonio will not soften his approach as his team prepares for the 2026 NBA Finals.
Speaking to reporters on Sunday, May 31, Brown acknowledged longstanding ties to the Texas franchise but made clear where his allegiance now lies. “I want to kick their ass,” he said when asked whether facing the Spurs carried mixed emotions.
The Knicks secured their first Finals berth since 1999 earlier this week, setting up a championship series against a Spurs organization Brown once called home. While praising people he still knows inside the San Antonio operation, the coach stressed that sentimentality will not affect game-plan or intensity.
Game 1 of the best-of-seven series is scheduled for Thursday night at Madison Square Garden.
