Nuggets

The Denver Nuggets intend to make a serious bid to keep restricted free agent Peyton Watson, league sources told ESPN’s Tim Bontemps. Despite the hamstring issues that limited the forward throughout the season, teams expect his next deal to land between $20 million and $25 million annually.

Denver’s expanding payroll could complicate those plans. A Western Conference scout suggested the club may have to weigh moving other contributors, citing Cameron Johnson or Christian Braun as potential cap casualties. “The injury stuff is a concern,” the scout said, “but so is how they struggled without him.”

76ers

The Philadelphia 76ers face growing pressure to re-sign guard Quentin Grimes. February’s trade that sent Jared McCain to Oklahoma City thinned the backcourt, increasing Grimes’s importance. Rival executives told ESPN they expect Philadelphia to pursue new agreements with both Grimes and Kelly Oubre Jr., even if that pushes the franchise back into luxury-tax territory.

“You have to keep at least one of them, if not both,” a Western Conference executive said. “And if they don’t go into the tax, they’re going to get crushed.”

Lakers

The Los Angeles Lakers have no appetite for a lengthy rebuild, general manager Rob Pelinka recently emphasized. In a report for The California Post, Melissa Rohlin examined how Los Angeles can keep pace with emerging Western Conference contenders such as Oklahoma City and San Antonio.

Depth emerged as the primary focus. With a star trio of LeBron James, Luka Doncic and Austin Reaves already in place, the front office is expected to prioritize complementary pieces rather than embark on a tear-down.
