Stephen Curry Lands No. 1 Spot in HoopsHype 2009 NBA Re-draft

Seventeen years after the 2009 NBA Draft, HoopsHype has revisited the event and installed Golden State Warriors guard Stephen Curry as the top overall pick.

The original draft saw the Los Angeles Clippers select Blake Griffin first after his standout career at Oklahoma. Griffin went on to become a six-time All-Star and the face of the franchise for several seasons.

Curry, drafted seventh by Golden State in 2009, has since won four NBA championships, earned two MVP awards and set numerous three-point shooting records. In the HoopsHype re-draft, the two-time MVP moves to No. 1, while James Harden rises to second and DeMar DeRozan claims the third spot. Griffin slips to fourth in the updated order.

The exercise underscores how much Curry’s impact—both for the Warriors and the league—has reshaped perceptions of that draft class.
