Veteran guard Norman Powell, who accepted a two-year contract with the Bulls earlier this month, said Miami remained his preferred destination after earning his first All-Star selection with the Heat last season.

“Did I want to return to Miami? Yeah, I did,” Powell told the Miami Herald. “But obviously, it’s a business.” Cap constraints kept the Heat from matching the offer he secured in Chicago, where the 32-year-old expects to use his scoring and experience to chase another championship run.

Jaquez shocked by trade to Milwaukee

Fourth-year wing Jaime Jaquez Jr. was sent to the Bucks in the blockbuster deal for Giannis Antetokounmpo, ending his tenure with the franchise that drafted him 18th overall in 2023. “It was definitely devastating for sure,” Jaquez told the South Florida Sun Sentinel after video of him learning the news went viral. He added that he is eager to “shine” in Milwaukee’s revamped rotation.

Johnson open to Heat reunion

Slam Dunk Contest winner Keshad Johnson, who did not receive a qualifying offer, said he would welcome a return on any terms, even a two-way contract. “If the opportunity presents itself, I for sure want to be a Heat,” he said, noting that he has also spoken with multiple teams during the offseason.

Goldin’s two-way offer stands

Miami allowed Monday’s deadline to pass without withdrawing its two-way qualifying offer to second-year center Vladislav Goldin. The 7-0 big man has averaged 8.8 points, 6.4 rebounds and 2.4 blocks in five Summer League appearances between Las Vegas and California.

Haslem answers Green’s criticism

Longtime Heat forward Udonis Haslem responded on social media after Draymond Green accused him of a double standard while discussing Green’s 2022 altercation with Jordan Poole and a recent practice dust-up involving Bam Adebayo and Tyler Herro. Haslem wrote that comparing the two incidents was “delusional,” adding, “Anyone who knows Bam knows he’s strong as baby bear. If he would’ve unloaded on Tyler 100% it’s over.”

The Heat continue to navigate luxury-tax limitations while monitoring the futures of Johnson, Goldin and other depth pieces.
