Matt Riccardi, one of the Dallas Mavericks’ top basketball executives, is departing the organization as the club continues its month-long front-office shake-up.
Reporter Jake Fischer (The Stein Line) first disclosed Riccardi’s exit on Tuesday, the same day Dallas dismissed head coach Jason Kidd. The move follows the recent hires of Masai Ujiri as president of basketball operations and Mike Schmitz as general manager.
Rapid rise in Dallas
Riccardi, a Dallas-area native, joined the Mavericks in 2022 as senior director of pro personnel after spending 13 years in scouting and executive roles with the Brooklyn Nets. He was elevated to assistant general manager during the 2023 offseason and, in November 2025, became co-interim GM alongside Michael Finley when Nico Harrison was fired. The pair ran the front office for the remainder of the 2025-26 season while the club searched for Harrison’s permanent successor.
According to Fischer, Riccardi finished second to Ujiri in that search. He represented Dallas in the draft lottery room when the Mavericks landed the No. 1 overall pick last May and was again the team’s representative at this month’s lottery. Just over a week later, he is now set to leave.
Wider changes underway
Marc Stein (The Stein Line) reports Riccardi’s departure is part of a broader wave of coaching and scouting changes. The club has not indicated whether Finley will remain with the team.
- Industry sources tell Stein that Ujiri’s new contract with Dallas pays comfortably into eight figures annually.
- Potential candidates to replace Kidd include Spurs associate head coach and former Mavericks assistant Sean Sweeney, as well as Timberwolves assistant Micah Nori, who previously worked under Ujiri in Toronto.
- Stein notes that Kidd could draw immediate interest elsewhere; the Orlando Magic had strong interest in him before hiring Jamahl Mosley in 2021, and Kidd has a prior relationship with new Trail Blazers owner Tom Dundon.
- The Mavericks are also expected to receive offseason trade inquiries about point guard Kyrie Irving, though the club’s stance on such interest remains unknown.
The Mavericks have not announced a timetable for filling Riccardi’s post or naming a new head coach.
