Israeli point guard Yam Madar has reached a lucrative agreement to play one season of college basketball at Louisiana State University, Mozzart Sport reported on Thursday.

Israel Hayom previously indicated the deal was valued at roughly $5 million. Because Madar turned 25 in December and owns significant professional experience, the NCAA must grant him special eligibility before he can suit up for the Tigers.

Sports Illustrated’s Kevin Sweeney wrote on X that Madar’s eligibility request will likely hinge on an exemption covering Israeli military service and his appearances with the national team.

Madar entered the 2020 NBA Draft and was selected 47th overall by the Boston Celtics, who still hold his NBA rights. The 6’3″ guard spent the 2025-26 season with Israel Tel Aviv but logged limited EuroLeague minutes, prompting dissatisfaction with his role, according to Israel Hayom.

He is under contract for 2026-27 at an estimated $1.9 million, yet a buyout clause could clear the way to Baton Rouge if the NCAA signs off.

Madar captured the EuroLeague Rising Star award in 2022-23 and has previously played for Hapoel Tel Aviv, Partizan Belgrade, Fenerbahce, and Bayern Munich.
