Free-agent center Andre Drummond has accepted a one-year deal worth approximately $3.9 million with the reigning NBA champion New York Knicks, according to Michael Scotto of HoopsHype.
The agreement is a veteran minimum contract. Drummond, a 14-year veteran, will earn $3.88 million for the 2026-27 season, while the Knicks will carry a $2.45 million cap hit.
A two-time All-Star and four-time rebounding champion, Drummond spent his first eight NBA seasons with Detroit before making stops in Cleveland, Los Angeles (Lakers), Brooklyn, Chicago and Philadelphia. Last season marked his second stint with the 76ers.
In 63 games (25 starts) during the 2025-26 campaign, the 6-11 center averaged 6.4 points and 8.4 rebounds across 19.5 minutes. He also connected on 35.6% of his 1.4 three-point attempts per game, the first season in which he consistently stepped beyond the arc.
Selected ninth overall in the 2012 draft, the Mount Vernon, N.Y., native turns 33 next month. He is expected to serve as the primary backup to Karl-Anthony Towns.
New York moved for Drummond after longtime center Mitchell Robinson agreed to a three-year, $47.1 million contract with the Boston Celtics. While Drummond does not match Robinson’s mobility or rim-protection skills, he offers comparable rebounding at a lower cost. German center Ariel Hukporti, the Knicks’ third-string big man last season, is headed to the Philadelphia 76ers on a one-year deal.
Team owner James Dolan stated after the franchise’s championship run that he would not exceed the NBA’s second tax apron, a stance that influenced Robinson’s departure and cleared the way for Drummond’s budget-friendly signing.
