Golden State Warriors general manager Mike Dunleavy Jr. said the organization wants forward Draymond Green to remain with the franchise for the rest of his career, yet acknowledged that the next move belongs to the player.
“The ball is in his court,” Dunleavy told reporters, noting that the team has already discussed a long-term future with the 14-year veteran.
Green, 36, holds a $27.7 million player option for next season and must decide by June 29 whether to opt in, pursue an extension or enter free agency.
“I would expect him to be back, but it’s his call,” Dunleavy added.
Head coach Steve Kerr echoed that sentiment, saying he is “committed to coaching him” as long as Green remains in a Warriors uniform. Kerr also referred to Green and guard Stephen Curry as “collaborators” in what the team has built over the past decade.
A four-time NBA champion, four-time All-Star and former Defensive Player of the Year, Green has spent his entire career with Golden State.
