With the Los Angeles Lakers preparing for the upcoming NBA Draft Combine, projected lottery pick Caleb Wilson revealed that Kobe Bryant is a primary source of his film study.

Speaking on SiriusXM NBA Radio, the 19-year-old North Carolina forward said he routinely watches “a whole bunch of Kobe” because the five-time champion was both his and his father’s favorite player. Wilson’s study playlist also includes Michael Jordan, Rasheed Wallace, Ben Wallace and, more recently, Giannis Antetokounmpo.

At 6-foot-9 with a reported seven-foot wingspan, Wilson is widely expected to be selected within the top four of the June draft. Scouts praise his downhill attacking style, a trait he compares to Antetokounmpo’s transition game. To expand his half-court repertoire, Wilson said he looks at Bryant’s mid-range and post-up techniques, areas he occasionally used at North Carolina.

The Lakers, who own the No. 25 pick, are unlikely to have a chance to select Wilson, but the franchise remains part of the conversation through Bryant’s influence. Governor Jeanie Buss recently noted that Bryant would have been excited to see Luka Dončić—acquired by Los Angeles earlier this year—in a Lakers uniform. Bryant famously greeted Dončić courtside at Staples Center in 2020 during the guard’s second NBA season.

Wilson will meet with teams in Chicago later this month, where his athletic testing and individual interviews could further solidify his standing near the top of the draft board.
