SAN FRANCISCO — The Golden State Warriors will head into the offseason without their top two assistants. According to league sources, offensive coordinator Terry Stotts and defensive coordinator Jerry Stackhouse will not return after their contracts expired at season’s end.

Stotts, 68, completed his second season on Steve Kerr’s bench and informed the head coach late in the regular season that he planned to step away. The former Portland Trail Blazers head coach described his time in the Bay Area as “fulfilling” and said he remains interested in another NBA head-coaching opportunity.

Stackhouse, hired in July 2024 to replace Kenny Atkinson, also spent two years alongside Kerr. Before joining Golden State, he guided Vanderbilt for five seasons. Sources said Stackhouse is leaving to pursue head-coaching roles, and forward Draymond Green recently promoted him for North Carolina’s vacancy before the Tar Heels selected former Denver Nuggets coach Michael Malone.

The departures add to a season of staff turnover for Golden State. Assistant Chris DeMarco left in January to take over the WNBA’s New York Liberty, prompting the promotion of longtime assistant Kris Weems, who is expected to stay.

The Warriors have started their search for replacements, with former New Orleans Pelicans coach Willie Green among the early candidates, sources said. Green began his NBA coaching career with Golden State in 2016 and maintains a close relationship with Kerr.

Kerr, who briefly considered stepping down, agreed last week to a two-year extension that keeps him the NBA’s highest-paid coach. After an injury-plagued 37-win season and a play-in exit, management signaled the need for significant changes on and off the court. Over the next two months, the organization plans to reshape both the roster around Stephen Curry and the coaching staff beneath Kerr.
