P.J. Tucker, the hard-nosed forward who spent parts of his 19-season career with the New York Knicks and captured an NBA championship elsewhere, announced his retirement on Friday.
The decision ends a nearly two-decade run that began in 2006 and saw Tucker earn a reputation as one of the league’s fiercest defenders and most respected veterans. His announcement was made public on May 8, 2026.
Tucker’s résumé includes one NBA title and a brief stint at Madison Square Garden, where he wore the Knicks jersey before moving on to other stops around the league. Details of his future plans were not disclosed.
The veteran thanked teammates, coaches and fans in a statement released through the team, noting that “it’s the right time to step away.”
