Hall of Fame coach Phil Jackson is urging the NBA to widen the playing surface so that corner three-pointers match the distance of shots taken above the break.

In a post on X dated April 27, 2026, Jackson wrote that he has spent “15 years” asking the league’s rules committee to expand the court apron, noting that the change would push the corner line to 23 feet, 9 inches. That distance is identical to the current arc elsewhere on the floor; the corners are now 22 feet, giving offenses a slightly shorter attempt from those spots.

Jackson’s suggestion surfaced one day after Golden State Warriors coach Steve Kerr said he would even consider eliminating the three-point line entirely, contending that today’s game has become too predictable. While Kerr’s idea seeks to remove the shot, Jackson’s proposal aims to keep it but make every attempt equally long.

The veteran coach believes a wider floor would erase the corner advantage and, in turn, alter offensive strategy league-wide. Whether the rules committee will study the recommendation remains unclear.
