The Chicago Bulls have trimmed their hunt for a new head of basketball operations to three candidates: Minnesota Timberwolves general manager Matt Lloyd, Atlanta Hawks senior vice president of basketball operations Bryson Graham, and Detroit Pistons senior vice president of basketball operations Dennis Lindsey, according to league sources cited by Jake Fischer and Marc Stein of The Stein Line.
Initial interviews were held virtually, and the trio is expected to meet with team officials in person next week. The Bulls previously received permission to speak with five executives—Lloyd, Graham, Lindsey, Cleveland Cavaliers GM Mike Gansey and San Antonio Spurs assistant GM Dave Telep—ESPN’s Shams Charania reported on Monday.
Multiple outlets have portrayed Lloyd as the leading contender. The Chicago Tribune’s Julia Poe labeled him the “obvious frontrunner,” and former Bulls basketball operations chief John Paxson, now an advisor to the organization, is viewed as a strong supporter, per The Stein Line.
Candidate Profiles
Matt Lloyd began his NBA career with Chicago in 1999 as a media coordinator before climbing into scouting and basketball operations roles. He left for the Orlando Magic in 2012, becoming assistant GM, and joined Minnesota in 2022 as senior VP of basketball operations. The Timberwolves elevated him to GM two years later.
Dennis Lindsey entered the league in 1996 and has held positions with the Utah Jazz, San Antonio Spurs and Dallas Mavericks. He moved to Detroit in 2024 and has contributed to a rapid turnaround that pushed the Pistons from the NBA’s worst record to the Eastern Conference’s top seed within two seasons.
Bryson Graham spent 15 seasons in the New Orleans Pelicans organization, including one year as general manager, before accepting his current post in Atlanta last summer. He built a reputation in New Orleans for spotting draft talent.
Organizational Context
Chicago is expected to enter a rebuilding phase. The team holds two first-round picks in the upcoming draft, substantial salary-cap space for free agency, and a youthful core featuring Matas Buzelis, Josh Giddey and Noa Essengue.
