The Miami Heat’s organizational flow chart places CEO Nick Arison—not longtime president Pat Riley—at the top of basketball decision-making, according to a report by Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald.
Jackson, citing multiple reporters who regularly cover the franchise, wrote that Arison, son of team owner Micky Arison, has retained ultimate authority “for years.” Riley, 80, remains the club’s president and public figurehead, but final approval on roster moves and other basketball matters now rests with the CEO.
The internal structure is said to include significant input from head coach Erik Spoelstra and general manager Andy Elisburg, forming a layered decision-making process beneath Arison. Jackson noted in an April 25, 2026 social-media post that the setup has been “widely reported” by at least three beat reporters, suggesting it is not a recent shift.
News of Arison’s authority resurfaced after Miami finished the 2025-26 regular season 43-39 and failed to secure a playoff berth, prompting fresh scrutiny of the franchise’s leadership hierarchy.
