ATLANTA — The Atlanta Hawks have signed center Charles Bassey to an Exhibit 10 agreement, the club announced Wednesday.
The 24-year-old big man is attempting to reboot his career after a fractured patella in 2023 and a torn ACL last December limited his time with San Antonio. Despite the setbacks, he logged 36 appearances for the Spurs last season, averaging 4.4 points and 4.2 rebounds in 10.7 minutes.
Bassey impressed during July’s Las Vegas Summer League, producing 15.3 points and 11.0 rebounds per game for the Boston Celtics while converting more than 70 percent of his shots. European power Partizan Belgrade reportedly showed interest, but the former second-round pick chose to stay in the NBA.
Atlanta currently carries 11 fully guaranteed contracts, giving Bassey — along with fellow camp invitees Caleb Houstan, Mouhamed Gueye and N’Faly Dante — a path to compete for an open roster slot.
Clippers Ink Freemantle
LOS ANGELES — The Clippers have finalized an Exhibit 10 deal with forward Zach Freemantle, the team confirmed.
The 23-year-old averaged 16.8 points and 6.8 rebounds as a super senior at Xavier, earning second-team All-Big East honors. He later boosted his stock at the Portsmouth Invitational and made a brief appearance with Orlando’s Summer League squad.
L.A. already holds the maximum number of standard and two-way contracts, so Freemantle is expected to open the season with the Clippers’ G League affiliate in San Diego if he does not secure a roster spot out of camp.
Celtics Two-Way Focus on Amari Williams
BOSTON — A panel on NBC Sports Boston identified rookie center Amari Williams as the Celtics’ most likely contributor among the team’s two-way players. Selected 46th overall in June, Williams could see minutes after Boston lost several front-court pieces during the offseason.
The Celtics’ other two-way slots are currently filled by players facing steeper competition for playing time.
The three transactions and evaluations highlight ongoing roster jockeying as training camps approach across the league.
