DETROIT — The eighth-seeded Orlando Magic opened their first-round series by defeating the top-seeded Detroit Pistons, 112-101, on Sunday night at Little Caesars Arena. Orlando never trailed.
Forward Paolo Banchero paced the Magic with 23 points, nine rebounds and four assists. Franz Wagner scored 19, including 11 in the fourth quarter, while Desmond Bane and Wendell Carter Jr. contributed 17 apiece. Jalen Suggs added 16.
Detroit’s home playoff losing streak grew to 11 games, a run that began in 2008. Guard Cade Cunningham recorded a playoff career-high 39 points, and Tobias Harris finished with 17, but no other Piston reached double figures. Detroit has not advanced beyond the opening round in 18 years.
Game 2 is scheduled for Wednesday night in Detroit.
Knicks update Anunoby
NEW YORK — The New York Knicks listed OG Anunoby as probable for Game 2 against the Atlanta Hawks after the forward practiced Monday despite a left ankle sprain, according to the New York Post. Anunoby briefly left Game 1 before returning to post 18 points and eight rebounds in 38 minutes.
“He came over to the bench and asked me if I could do the spiritual healing for his ankle,” teammate Jordan Clarkson joked. “Then he sat there for a second, came back in and finished the game.”
New York leads the series 1-0.
