New York guard Landry Shamet will be back in uniform on Wednesday after missing five games with a bone bruise in his right knee. The Knicks visit Memphis on the second night of a back-to-back set.
While Shamet is ready, head coach Mike Brown will be without two regular rotation players. Center Mitchell Robinson (left ankle injury management) and guard Miles McBride (pelvic/core muscle injury management) have been ruled out for Wednesday’s contest. Star guard Jalen Brunson is listed as questionable because of right ankle soreness.
McBride, who recently returned from sports-hernia surgery, said Tuesday that the discomfort he felt in Sunday’s game came from scar tissue breaking down. “Surgery is going to cause pain. I’m not sure when it’s going to fully subside,” the third-year guard told reporters.
Additional Knicks Notes
• Robinson, who turned 28 on Tuesday, is headed for unrestricted free agency this summer. Despite averaging 19.5 minutes, he is posting 8.7 rebounds per game, including 4.2 on the offensive glass.
• Rookie forward Mohamed Diawara logged just four minutes combined in recent losses to Oklahoma City and Houston. His limited role has raised questions about why the Knicks are not tapping into his versatility, floor spacing and energy.
• With the postseason approaching, concerns remain about New York’s uneven results against top opponents and the defensive issues that surface when Brunson and Karl-Anthony Towns share the floor. Towns said he is still working to fit into Brown’s offense with only a few weeks left in the regular season.
