The Detroit Pistons entered the 2025 summer looking to build on last season’s 30-win jump, and the front office responded with a series of signings, trades and roster tweaks that reshaped the supporting cast around Cade Cunningham and Jalen Duren.
Free-agent agreements
Duncan Robinson arrived from Miami in a sign-and-trade and signed a three-year contract worth $47,978,871. The second season carries only a $2 million partial guarantee, while the third season is fully non-guaranteed.
Caris LeVert accepted the full non-taxpayer mid-level exception, inking a two-year, $28,913,200 deal.
Paul Reed re-upped on a two-year pact valued at $10,938,583; only the first season is guaranteed.
Javonte Green signed a one-year minimum contract with $925,106 guaranteed.
Trades
• Detroit sent Simone Fontecchio to the Heat for Robinson.
• In a separate sign-and-trade, Dennis Schröder went to Sacramento. The Pistons received a top-55 protected 2026 second-round pick from Charlotte (via the Kings) and created a $14,104,000 trade exception; Sacramento also obtained the least favorable of Detroit, Milwaukee or New York’s 2029 second-rounders.
Draft pick
Second-round selection Chaz Lanier (No. 37 overall) signed a four-year contract worth $8,785,386. The first two seasons are guaranteed, year three is non-guaranteed and year four is a team option.
Two-way contracts
The club reached tentative two-way deals with Daniss Jenkins and Colby Jones and retained Tolu Smith on a carry-over two-way slot.
Departures
Free agents Malik Beasley (unsigned), Tim Hardaway Jr. (Nuggets), Dennis Schröder (Kings) and Lindy Waters III (Spurs) left the roster. Two-way guard Ron Harper Jr. was waived.
Cap position

2024-25 recap and offseason context
Detroit followed a franchise-worst 14-win campaign with a 44-38 record, its first playoff berth since 2019 and its first postseason win since 2008. Initial plans to retain Beasley, Schröder and Hardaway changed after Beasley became the subject of a federal gambling probe and rival interest in Schröder emerged. Those developments prompted the front-office pivot toward Robinson and LeVert.
Remaining flexibility
The Pistons hold 13 fully guaranteed contracts plus Green’s partial guarantee and can add another player without crossing the tax threshold. The $14.1 million trade exception provides additional maneuverability if a target becomes available.
Extension watch
Jalen Duren and Jaden Ivey are eligible for rookie-scale extensions until Oct. 20. League observers such as Eric Pincus (Bleacher Report) and John Hollinger (The Athletic) have speculated on figures in the $97-$125 million range for Duren. Ivey, who fractured his leg in January, could face a longer timeline before a new deal.
Detroit’s front office will weigh those extension talks and monitor potential trade opportunities as training camp approaches.
