With the 2026-27 salary cap projected at roughly $166 million, front offices already are mapping out their offseason plans. New figures from Spotrac outline how much spending power each of the league’s 30 clubs is expected to have when the market opens.

Most Flexibility / Cleanest Books

Memphis Grizzlies: approximately $149 million in committed salary (near the cap)
Brooklyn Nets: about $152 million
Charlotte Hornets: around $177 million
Utah Jazz: roughly $196 million

Middle Tier / Manageable Situations

Milwaukee Bucks: about $209 million
Toronto Raptors: near $210 million
Indiana Pacers: close to $212 million
San Antonio Spurs: roughly $224 million
Washington Wizards: about $225 million
New Orleans Pelicans: approximately $225 million
Houston Rockets: near $227 million
Portland Trail Blazers: about $231 million
Detroit Pistons: around $237 million

Over the Cap / Limited Flexibility

Phoenix Suns: close to $237 million
Dallas Mavericks: roughly $237 million
Philadelphia 76ers: about $239 million
Atlanta Hawks: near $241 million
Los Angeles Clippers: approximately $245 million
Orlando Magic: around $246 million
Sacramento Kings: roughly $247 million

Deep Tax / Apron Territory

Chicago Bulls: about $252 million
Oklahoma City Thunder: approximately $256 million
New York Knicks: near $258 million
Minnesota Timberwolves: about $258 million
Los Angeles Lakers: roughly $259 million
Cleveland Cavaliers: close to $260 million
Denver Nuggets: around $261 million
Miami Heat: approximately $270 million
Golden State Warriors: near $273 million

The numbers suggest that only a handful of teams will have meaningful cap space when free agency begins, pushing many executives to prioritize trades, exceptions and other creative avenues to improve rosters. Clubs with lighter payrolls could gain an upper hand if a marquee player hits the market.
