Bucks Release Cam Thomas

The Milwaukee Bucks have waived guard Cam Thomas, according to ESPN’s Shams Charania, with the team confirming the roster move in a press release.

Milwaukee opened the roster spot to convert forward Pete Nance from a two-way deal to a multiyear standard contract. Thomas, 24, had joined the Bucks on a rest-of-season minimum agreement shortly after the trade deadline.

General manager Jon Horst previously told Thomas he could be a cornerstone for the franchise, and head coach Doc Rivers likened the high-scoring guard to former Sixth Man of the Year winners Jamal Crawford and Lou Williams. Despite that optimism, Thomas’ playing time slipped to 16.6 minutes per game with Milwaukee—down from 24.3 with Brooklyn—and he logged two recent DNP-CDs.

In 18 appearances for the Bucks, the former first-round pick averaged 10.6 points, 1.9 assists and 1.6 rebounds while shooting 43.1% from the field and 27.5% from three-point range. Defensive struggles and 1.4 turnovers per game also limited his role.

If Thomas clears waivers, Milwaukee will carry a dead-money cap charge of $844,607. He would become a free agent but is ineligible for the 2025 playoffs because the transaction occurred after March 1. Any team that claims him would assume the same cap hit and postseason restriction.
