Boston — The Celtics expect center Nikola Vucevic to remain sidelined for at least a month as he recovers from a fractured right ring finger sustained on March 6. Speaking with the Boston Globe, the veteran said swelling has subsided and pain is minimal, allowing him to do limited on-court work.
“The good thing is I can still do some stuff on the court,” Vucevic noted. “That will help me for when I come back, be in shape and hopefully get a couple games before the playoffs.” A clear X-ray is the next checkpoint; once received, the 33-year-old plans to intensify workouts and rebuild strength in his shooting hand.
Looking ahead, Boston may again operate under the NBA’s first tax apron in 2024-25. MassLive reports the club has roughly $185 million committed to salaries, a total that includes multiple non-guaranteed contracts and several young contributors on team-friendly deals.
Nets
Brooklyn’s struggles against the Knicks continued Friday with a 93-92 defeat, the team’s 14th consecutive loss in the city rivalry. Forward Josh Minott poured in a career-high 22 points but voiced frustration afterward. “I wanted that win so (bleeping) bad,” he told the New York Post, lamenting the pro-Knicks crowd atmosphere that has become familiar at Nets home games.
Raptors
Toronto remains fifth in the Eastern Conference despite a recent loss to Denver. Guard RJ Barrett said improved health across the roster should unlock another level of play. “The more we get healthy, the more we play together, the better it’s going to be for us,” Barrett told reporters. “There are times and moments that we can play better as a team.”
