The Orlando Magic have upgraded forward Jamal Cain from a two-way agreement to a standard NBA contract, the club announced Thursday.
Cain, 27, occupies Orlando’s 15th and final regular-season roster slot, making him eligible for the 2026 postseason. Because the deadline to add two-way players passed on March 4, the Magic cannot replace his vacated two-way position.
Before the move, the 6-foot-7 wing had been active for 43 games, seven shy of the 50-game cap for two-way contracts. Orlando has 13 contests remaining on its regular-season schedule.
Undrafted in 2022, Cain spent his first two NBA seasons with Miami and a third with New Orleans before signing a two-way deal with the Magic last summer. This season marked his fourth straight year on a two-way contract; the new agreement is the first standard deal of his career.
Through 27 NBA appearances, Cain is averaging 3.5 points on .431/.415/.850 shooting in 8.0 minutes. Injuries have expanded his role recently, and over the past four games he has logged 15.3 minutes a night while contributing 8.0 points and 3.3 rebounds on .522/.462/1.000 shooting. He also played nine games for the Osceola Magic in the G League.
“One thing about Jamal is that he doesn’t lack confidence,” forward Paolo Banchero said earlier this month. “Whether he doesn’t play 10 straight games, he’s ready to go every single game. He’s always working … being able to check in and affect the game on both sides of the ball is huge.”
