The Indiana Pacers will be without newly acquired center Ivica Zubac for the remainder of the season after he was diagnosed with a fractured rib, according to Dustin Dopirak of The Indianapolis Star.
The injury was detected after Indiana’s loss to the Portland Trail Blazers on Wednesday night. Zubac had left that game early when he took an elbow from rookie center Donovan Clingan, initially entering concussion evaluation for a head contusion. The rib fracture was discovered later, and the team subsequently ruled him out for the rest of the year.
Zubac, 27, arrived from the Los Angeles Clippers at the trade deadline and appeared in just five games for Indiana, averaging 11.6 points and 7.2 rebounds. The Pacers dropped all five contests during his brief stint. Despite the setback, the organization reportedly views the 7-footer as a long-term frontcourt partner for All-Star guard Tyrese Haliburton once both are healthy.
