Sotheby’s will place the game-worn jersey Kobe Bryant donned in his first appearance wearing No. 24 on the auction block during a live sale in New York on September 30.

The gold Los Angeles Lakers uniform, signed and inscribed by Bryant, is expected to bring in more than $1 million. Brendan Hawkes, Sotheby’s head of sports strategy and development, called the item “one of the most culturally and historically significant Kobe Bryant jerseys ever to surface.”

Bryant debuted the number on November 3, 2006, after sitting out the season’s first two contests while recovering from offseason knee surgery. In that game—his team’s third of the 2006-07 campaign—the guard scored 23 points and handed out six assists in a Lakers victory.

The 2006-07 season became one of Bryant’s most prolific. He captured his second straight scoring title by averaging 31.6 points, 5.7 rebounds and 5.4 assists, delivered 10 games of at least 50 points and strung together four consecutive 50-plus performances, two of them topping 60.

The Bryant lot will hit the block immediately after Sotheby’s auctions the jersey worn by hockey legend Wayne Gretzky in his final NHL game.

Interest in Bryant memorabilia remains intense. Earlier this year, a trading card featuring both Bryant and Michael Jordan sold for $12.9 million. The winning bidder was revealed as investor and television personality Kevin “Mr. Wonderful” O’Leary.
