ATLANTIC DIVISION — Former Boston center Kristaps Porzingis, now with the Hawks after a summer trade, applauded ex-teammate Neemias Queta following a EuroBasket group-stage meeting this week.

EuroBasket Performance

Porzingis powered Latvia to a 78–62 win over Portugal, posting 21 points, nine rebounds, three assists, and one block. Queta countered with 16 points, seven boards, two steals, and a block for Portugal. “Nimi has been getting better each year,” Porzingis said, adding that Celtics head coach Joe Mazzulla “has been pretty tough on him” and that Queta now “deserves some real rotation minutes.”

The 25-year-old Queta is expected to battle newcomers Chris Boucher and Luka Garza, along with holdover Xavier Tillman, for minutes at center in Boston.

Celtics Training-Camp Questions

With camp approaching, NBC Sports Boston’s Chris Forsberg surveyed colleagues on the biggest issues facing the retooled Celtics ahead of the 2025/26 season. Boston will open the year without injured All-Star Jayson Tatum and without former starters Porzingis and Jrue Holiday, both dealt in cost-cutting moves. Backup center Luke Kornet departed in free agency, and veteran big man Al Horford remains unsigned. Observers are watching president Brad Stevens’ roster construction and Mazzulla’s ability to steer a group no longer viewed as a title contender.

Knicks Add Front-Office Experience

The Knicks are bringing in longtime talent evaluator Ermal Kuqo as senior director of minor league operations. Kuqo previously served as the Clippers’ director of international pro scouting, Michael Scotto of HoopsHype reported.

McCain Expects Full Camp Participation

Sixers guard Jared McCain said he anticipates being available when Philadelphia opens training camp later this month.
