The Chicago Bulls have lost 12 of their past 13 games, but guard Josh Giddey says a lengthy rebuild is not inevitable.
Speaking to reporters this week, Giddey pointed to his time with the Oklahoma City Thunder as evidence that a franchise can climb quickly.
“When I was in Oklahoma, we went from the worst team in the league to the best team in the league in 24 months,” Giddey said, according to Joe Cowley of the Chicago Sun-Times. “We did it pretty quickly. A lot of rebuilds don’t necessarily happen that fast. Obviously, with the people and personnel we had it got sped up pretty quickly.”
Giddey added that Oklahoma City’s rise was built on establishing “a lot of really good habits, winning habits” over a three-year span.
The Thunder’s turnaround was fueled by a surplus of draft assets and budding stars such as Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Chet Holmgren, Cowley noted. Even so, Giddey’s message to Chicago was clear: a roster overhaul does not have to drag on for years.
