The window for 2022 first-round draft picks to finalize rookie-scale extensions opened on July 1 and runs through October 20, the eve of the 2025-26 NBA regular season. Any agreement reached during this period can cover up to five years and will take effect in 2026-27. Players who do not sign an extension before the deadline will enter restricted free agency in the summer of 2026.
Four members of the 2022 class — Paolo Banchero, Jabari Smith Jr., Chet Holmgren and Jalen Williams — have already secured new deals. Blake Wesley is no longer eligible after completing a buyout with Washington and joining Portland on a one-year contract. Eight other first-rounders from the class are ineligible for extensions due to separate contract circumstances.
That leaves 17 players still able to negotiate long-term pacts:
- Ochai Agbaji (Raptors)
- Malaki Branham (Wizards)
- Christian Braun (Nuggets)
- Dyson Daniels (Hawks)
- Ousmane Dieng (Thunder)
- Jalen Duren (Pistons)
- Tari Eason (Rockets)
- Jaden Ivey (Pistons)
- Nikola Jovic (Heat)
- Walker Kessler (Jazz)
- Bennedict Mathurin (Pacers)
- Keegan Murray (Kings)
- Shaedon Sharpe (Trail Blazers)
- Jeremy Sochan (Spurs)
- Dalen Terry (Bulls)
- Peyton Watson (Nuggets)
- Mark Williams (Suns)
The league has seen a steady rise in rookie-scale extensions, with at least 10 players signing each offseason since 2020 and a record 14 agreements reached in 2023. Several more deals are expected before the October 20 cutoff as teams aim to secure young talent ahead of free agency.
