Cavaliers list several key players on injury report before trip to Detroit

The Cleveland Cavaliers head to Detroit on Friday with a growing list of health concerns that could sideline several rotation players against the Eastern Conference-leading Pistons.

All-Star guard Donovan Mitchell has been ruled out because of a lingering groin strain. Cleveland is prioritizing his full recovery for the postseason, leaving him unavailable for at least one more game.

James Harden is officially listed as questionable after fracturing a thumb on his non-shooting hand. The veteran guard dislikes missing time and is expected to attempt to play through the injury.

The report becomes even more crowded farther down the roster:

  • Dean Wade – questionable, ankle sprain
  • Dennis Schroder – questionable, ankle sprain
  • Keon Ellis – questionable, fractured finger
  • Max Strus – out, foot injury

The rash of injuries comes two days after Cleveland’s road victory over the New York Knicks, a performance that hinted at improved chemistry. Earlier this week, the Cavaliers also competed shorthanded in Milwaukee without Mitchell, Harden and Evan Mobley, testing the depth of head coach J.B. Bickerstaff’s lineup.

Tipoff against the Pistons is set for Friday night at Little Caesars Arena.
