Lon Rosen, newly appointed as president of business operations for the Los Angeles Lakers, told reporters Tuesday that Rob Pelinka will remain president of basketball operations and continue to oversee the team’s roster decisions.

Rosen’s confirmation came during his first media session since being hired by majority owner Mark Walter. Pelinka had already indicated that he and governor Jeanie Buss intended to stay in their current roles following Walter’s purchase of a controlling stake in the franchise.

“Rob Pelinka will stay on as president of basketball operations,” Rosen said, according to a post from ESPN’s Dave McMenamin on Feb. 25, 2026. Rosen added that Earvin “Magic” Johnson—his former longtime client and colleague with the Los Angeles Dodgers—will remain close to the organization but will not hold an official position.

Rosen replaces outgoing business operations president Tim Harris, who will leave the team at the end of the season. The front‐office structure could expand in the offseason, with the club expected to mirror elements of the Dodgers’ executive model while keeping Pelinka at the top of basketball decision-making.

Rosen outlines priorities in new role

Expressing enthusiasm about returning to the Lakers, Rosen said his focus is on supporting employees and partners while maintaining a premier experience for local and global fans. “The economics of the sports business are constantly changing, and they will continue to do so,” he noted. “My job is figuring out how to do right by our employees and our partners while ensuring that the Lakers continue to provide an unparalleled experience for our fans in Los Angeles and around the world.”

Rosen added that he looks forward to working alongside Buss, Pelinka and the rest of the front office to achieve those goals.
