Golden State Warriors owner Joe Lacob ruled out any possibility of intentional losing this season, stressing that “tanking” conflicts with the franchise’s principles.
Speaking with Tim Kawakami of The San Francisco Standard in late February, Lacob addressed speculation that the 29-27 Warriors might benefit from sliding down the standings for draft positioning. “It is not in my DNA, nor in this organization’s DNA, to do that,” he said. “We’re supposed to play to win.”
Lacob acknowledged that some fans have urged the club to prioritize the lottery but insisted neither he, head coach Steve Kerr nor the roster would consider such an approach. “That’s just not a way I would be comfortable, ever, trying to improve our team,” he added.
Golden State has battled injuries and inconsistency throughout the campaign, yet with Stephen Curry still leading the lineup, the organization intends to pursue playoff success rather than draft odds.
