The Chicago Bulls will keep center Zach Collins out for the remainder of the 2025-26 campaign after additional medical tests determined he needs surgery on his sprained right toe, the club announced on Thursday.
Collins injured the toe on December 27 and had been wearing a protective boot while team doctors tried to avoid surgery. Head coach Billy Donovan indicated earlier this month that the 28-year-old might not return if progress stalled. With the shutdown decision, Collins finishes the season with 10 appearances, averaging 9.7 points and 5.6 rebounds after missing the first six weeks with a wrist injury. He played 64 games last year split between San Antonio and Chicago.
The veteran big man will enter unrestricted free agency this summer. He is completing the second season of a two-year, $34.8 million deal he signed with the Spurs and is expected to take a significant salary cut to remain in the league, according to the team’s statement.
Chicago also disclosed that newly acquired guard Jaden Ivey will be evaluated again in two weeks because of soreness in his left knee. Since arriving from Detroit earlier this month, the 22-year-old has logged four games (three starts) and is averaging 11.5 points, 4.8 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 2.0 steals in 28 minutes per contest.
Ivey sustained a fractured leg midway through his last full season with the Pistons and sat out early this year following surgery on his right knee in mid-October. He will be a restricted free agent in July unless the Bulls renounce his rights, which would remove his cap hold and make him unrestricted.
