Minnesota Timberwolves center Rudy Gobert is on track for an automatic one-game suspension and will likely sit out Sunday’s matchup with the Philadelphia 76ers after picking up another flagrant foul on Friday night against the Dallas Mavericks.

The infraction occurred at the end of the second quarter when officials upgraded an initially common foul to a flagrant 1 for Gobert’s “unnecessary flail” that struck Mavericks forward Marvin Bagley in the neck. The call pushed the 33-year-old to seven flagrant-foul points this season, triggering the NBA’s suspension threshold.

Gobert was previously suspended one game last month after a reckless closeout on Spurs rookie Victor Wembanyama gave him his sixth flagrant point. If Friday’s ruling stands, the four-time Defensive Player of the Year will forfeit $201,149 in salary, while Minnesota will receive a $100,575 luxury-tax credit.

Under league rules, any additional flagrant fouls before the regular season ends will result in an automatic two-game ban. Although flagrant-point totals reset once the playoffs begin, a violation in the Timberwolves’ final two regular-season contests would carry its suspension into the postseason.

Through 54 games, Gobert is averaging 11.0 points, 11.1 rebounds and 1.6 blocks in 31.3 minutes. He finished Friday’s 115-110 win with 22 points, 17 boards and three blocks in 32 minutes.
