The Los Angeles Lakers announced Thursday that longtime sports executive Lon Rosen will become the organization’s new President of Business Operations.

Rosen, 64, has served as Executive Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer of the Los Angeles Dodgers since 2012. He will replace Tim Harris, who is stepping down at the end of the current season after more than three decades with the Lakers.

“For many years, I have seen the impact that Lon has had in our industry,” Lakers governor Jeanie Buss said in the team’s statement. “Finding someone who could fill Tim’s shoes would never be easy. The answer, we soon realized, was someone both Mark and I knew well and who already understood the values, culture and commitment to excellence of both the Dodgers and the Lakers.”

Rosen called the move “an incredible opportunity” and said his focus will be “figuring out how to do right by our employees and our partners while ensuring that the Lakers continue to provide an unparalleled experience for our fans in Los Angeles and around the world.”

The executive transition comes less than a year after billionaire Mark Walter—also the controlling owner of the Dodgers—acquired a stake in the Lakers. Rosen previously worked as a high-profile agent representing, among others, Lakers legend Magic Johnson.

Harris, the outgoing president, joined the franchise in 1989 and has overseen ticketing, partnerships, and business strategy during multiple championship runs.

Lakers eye busy offseason

With Rosen set to lead the business side, the basketball department is preparing for a pivotal summer. The front office preserved salary-cap flexibility at the recent trade deadline, a strategy star guard Luka Doncic publicly endorsed, and will enter the offseason armed with cap space and draft capital.
