MINNEAPOLIS — Warriors guard Stephen Curry sat out Monday’s game against the Timberwolves after experiencing discomfort in his right knee during Golden State’s 125-96 victory in Minneapolis the previous night. The 37-year-old scored 26 points in 28 minutes on Sunday but was held out of the back end of the back-to-back. Head coach Steve Kerr described the injury as “not serious” and expressed optimism that Curry could return Wednesday in Utah.
The Timberwolves also dealt with a notable absence. Star guard Anthony Edwards was downgraded from questionable to out before Monday’s win over Golden State because of ongoing right-foot management. Edwards completed his pregame warm-up but reported pain and was ruled out shortly before tip-off. Head coach Chris Finch said he does not yet know whether Edwards will be available for Minnesota’s upcoming back-to-back later in the week.
In Portland, forward Deni Avdija missed his second straight game Monday against Boston after aggravating a back injury last week. Interim coach Tiago Splitter told reporters the club opted to give the 25-year-old an extra day of rest and expects him to play Tuesday when the Trail Blazers visit Washington.
Sacramento’s backcourt is also on the injury report. Guards Zach LaVine (lower-back soreness) and Malik Monk (right-ankle soreness) are listed as questionable for Tuesday’s home matchup with New York. LaVine sat out Sunday’s loss in Detroit, while Monk logged 22 minutes and finished with 19 points.
