August 24, 2025 — The San Antonio Spurs reshaped their roster this summer, highlighted by a four-year maximum extension for All-Star guard De’Aaron Fox and the selection of Rutgers standout Dylan Harper with the No. 2 pick in the NBA Draft. The club also invested mid-level money in center Luke Kornet and traded for veteran big man Kelly Olynyk, setting the stage for head coach Mitch Johnson’s second season in charge.
Key free-agent additions
- Luke Kornet: four years, $40.7 million; third season partially guaranteed at $2.55 million, fourth season non-guaranteed (non-taxpayer mid-level exception).
- Jordan McLaughlin: one-year minimum contract, re-signed (minimum exception; trade veto waived).
- Lindy Waters III: one-year minimum, $500,000 partial guarantee.
- Adam Flagler: one-year Exhibit 10 deal.
- Micah Potter: one-year Exhibit 10 deal.
Trades
- Received the Kings’ 2030 second-round pick and $2.5 million from Indiana for the draft rights to No. 38 pick Kam Jones.
- Acquired Kelly Olynyk from Washington for Malaki Branham, Blake Wesley and the least favorable of Dallas’, Oklahoma City’s or Philadelphia’s 2026 second-round pick.
Draft results
- Dylan Harper, No. 2 overall — four-year rookie contract worth $56.14 million.
- Carter Bryant, No. 14 overall — four-year rookie contract worth $23.42 million.
Two-way contracts
- Harrison Ingram, $85,300 partial guarantee.
- David Jones Garcia, $85,300 partial guarantee (rises to $318,218 when the season opens).
- Riley Minix, $85,300 partial guarantee.
Notable departures
Charles Bassey, Bismack Biyombo and David Duke Jr. remain unsigned. Sandro Mamukelashvili joined Toronto, and veteran guard Chris Paul returned to the Clippers.
Other major move
De’Aaron Fox inked a four-year, projected $222.39 million extension that begins in 2026-27, committing him to San Antonio through at least 2030.
Cap picture
The Spurs are operating above the $154.6 million salary cap but below the $187.9 million luxury-tax line, carrying roughly $179.9 million in contracts. The club is hard-capped at $195.945 million, has $3.104 million left of the non-taxpayer mid-level exception and still holds its full $5.134 million bi-annual exception.
Roster outlook
San Antonio has 13 fully guaranteed deals plus Lindy Waters III’s partially guaranteed contract, leaving one open roster spot. With Victor Wembanyama returning from a season-ending shoulder DVT and Olynyk projecting more as a stretch big, the team could add another center before opening night. Former Spur Charles Bassey is still on the market.
Names to watch
Wings Keldon Johnson and Devin Vassell continue to surface in trade chatter, though significant movement is expected closer to the deadline. Extension talks could also emerge for Harrison Barnes, whose iron-man streak dates to December 2021, and forward Jeremy Sochan, who becomes eligible for a rookie-scale deal this fall.
The blending of Fox, reigning Rookie of the Year Stephon Castle and newcomer Harper will headline the storylines when San Antonio tips off the 2025-26 campaign.
