The Charlotte Hornets are seeing an immediate impact from their newest draft class, giving the organization a lift it has lacked in recent seasons.

First-round pick Kon Knueppel headlines the group and has already positioned himself as an early contender for Rookie of the Year, challenging former college teammate and fellow top selection Cooper Flagg. Joining Knueppel are fellow rookies Sion James, Ryan Kalkbrenner, and Liam McNeeley, each bringing a distinct skill set that has caught the attention of club executives and coaches.

“They were just so secure in themselves,” president of basketball operations Jeff Peterson said. “They’re about their team and that we win. And they all complement each other.”

Three of the four rookies—Knueppel, James, and Kalkbrenner—have already logged meaningful NBA minutes. McNeeley has split time between the Hornets and their G League affiliate, though coaches note his presence is still felt inside the locker room.

Head coach Charles Lee praised the group’s attitude. “The way they come in the building every day with their energy, with their curiosity to learn,” Lee said. “Even Liam has brought a new term for us to break our huddles.”

The early contributions have provided tangible optimism for a franchise eager to climb the Eastern Conference standings.
