The Los Angeles Lakers began their annual Grammy road trip by storming back to beat the Denver Nuggets 107-105 on Tuesday night in Denver, overcoming a 17-point halftime hole with a lockdown second half and standout efforts from Luka Doncic and Marcus Smart.
First-Half Fireworks, Second-Half Shutdown
Denver, playing without injured center Nikola Jokic (knee), lit up Los Angeles for 71 first-half points and appeared in complete control. The script flipped after intermission: the Lakers surrendered only 36 points over the final two quarters while piecing together multiple scoring runs that erased the deficit.
Doncic Dominates
Doncic powered the comeback with a 38-point, 13-rebound, 10-assist triple-double, adding two steals. He carried the offense early by matching Denver shot for shot, then shifted into playmaker mode when the Nuggets threw extra defenders at him in the second half.
Smart Seals It
With Denver loading up on Doncic, Smart provided the late spark. The veteran guard nailed several fourth-quarter three-pointers and supplied energetic defense, finishing with 15 points, two rebounds and an assist.
James Steadies the Bench Minutes
LeBron James, quiet early, steadied Los Angeles while Doncic rested to start the fourth. James closed with 19 points, nine rebounds and eight assists, keeping the Lakers within striking distance until the starters returned.
Road Trip Continues
The Lakers stay on the road but return to Southern California on Thursday to face the L.A. Clippers before visiting the Dallas Mavericks on Saturday.
