Warriors GM Mike Dunleavy Jr. Says Jimmy Butler Likely Staying Put Despite ACL Injury

Golden State Warriors general manager Mike Dunleavy Jr. indicated Tuesday that he does not anticipate trading Jimmy Butler, even after the star forward suffered a season-ending torn ACL earlier this week.

Speaking to reporters before the Warriors faced the Toronto Raptors, Dunleavy said he expects Butler to be back on the floor for the 2026-27 campaign and to provide an impact similar to the one he made upon joining the team last season, according to ESPN’s Anthony Slater.

“We hate it for him, but the beat goes on,” Dunleavy told reporters, stressing that Butler’s durability and playing style should help him remain effective once he completes his recovery.

The executive acknowledged that the injury complicates Golden State’s approach ahead of the Feb. 5 trade deadline, but reiterated he is “crushed” for Butler on a personal level and does not foresee moving the six-time All-Star.

Update on Jonathan Kuminga

Dunleavy also addressed Jonathan Kuminga’s recent trade request. He confirmed awareness of the forward’s desire to be dealt, yet noted that any transaction requires mutual interest. “When there’s a demand, there needs to be a demand on the market,” Dunleavy said.

The Warriors have not announced any immediate roster moves following Butler’s injury.
