The Atlanta Hawks expect to know more about the status of Kristaps Porzingis and Zaccharie Risacher in about a week, while the Brooklyn Nets remain winless without leading scorer Michael Porter Jr. and the Indiana Pacers have issued a second 10-day contract to center Tony Bradley.
Hawks
Atlanta said Monday that both Porzingis and Risacher are “making progress” and will be re-evaluated in roughly seven days. Porzingis has sat out the past five games with left Achilles tendinitis and has appeared in only 17 contests all season, averaging 17.1 points, 5.1 rebounds and 2.7 assists in limited minutes. The 7-foot-3 forward is playing on a $30.7 million expiring contract, keeping his name in trade speculation.
Risacher, the No. 1 pick in the 2024 NBA Draft, is sidelined by a left knee bone contusion. The second-year wing is scoring 11.2 points per game and has already missed more time this season than he did as a rookie. Team officials have repeatedly indicated they are unwilling to include him in trade talks, even for star-level players.
The Hawks are 20-24 and hold the final Eastern Conference play-in spot.
Nets
The Nets dropped to 0-8 without Porter Jr. after Sunday’s loss, their defeats coming by an average margin of more than 16 points, according to the New York Post. Head coach Jordi Fernández said, “We didn’t compete to the best of our ability,” adding that the team will undergo a film-heavy review.
Pacers
Indiana brought back Tony Bradley on a second 10-day contract. The veteran center has provided meaningful minutes since signing his first short-term deal, but NBA rules allow only two 10-day contracts per player per team. The Pacers must either sign Bradley for the remainder of the season or let him walk when this agreement expires on January 28.
