Warriors pull back from potential Anthony Davis trade

The Golden State Warriors have decided against pursuing a deal for Dallas Mavericks forward Anthony Davis, according to ESPN’s Anthony Slater.

Slater said on ESPN that there is “zero appetite” within the Warriors organization to acquire the eight-time All-Star, largely because any package would almost certainly include Draymond Green. “Imagine trading Draymond Green for a guy who might be back around playoff time,” Slater noted, describing the concept as a nonstarter.

Davis, 31, is expected to miss at least six weeks with a left-hand ligament injury after opting to skip surgery. He has appeared in only 29 games since arriving in Dallas in the offseason blockbuster that sent Luka Dončić to the Atlanta Hawks.

The veteran big man is earning $54.1 million this season and becomes eligible for a significant contract extension in August. His agent, Rich Paul, is said to be seeking clarity on Davis’s future before then.

Inside the Mavericks, some team members reportedly like the idea of pairing Davis with rookie Cooper Flagg and guard Kyrie Irving. However, Dallas sits 12th in the Western Conference and could prioritize draft positioning; 2026 is the final year before the club’s first-round pick protections tighten.

Elsewhere, Shams Charania of ESPN reports the Atlanta Hawks and Toronto Raptors remain in contact with Dallas about Davis. Golden State, meanwhile, has shifted its focus to Brooklyn Nets forward Michael Porter Jr.
