The New York Knicks have ruled guard Jalen Brunson out of Thursday night’s matchup with the Golden State Warriors because of a sprained right ankle, the team announced Wednesday. He is considered day-to-day.
Brunson was hurt in the opening minutes of Wednesday’s 112-101 loss to the Sacramento Kings. The 27-year-old limped to the bench at the 7:01 mark of the first quarter after an awkward step on a pass sequence a minute earlier. Initially listed as questionable, he was declared out at halftime and finished the game with five points in five minutes.
This is Brunson’s second right ankle issue of the season. He missed two games in mid-November following a sprain sustained against the Orlando Magic. Last season, he sat out nearly a month after spraining the same ankle versus the Los Angeles Lakers in March and dealt with additional foot problems during New York’s run to the Eastern Conference finals.
The Knicks’ next game is Saturday at Madison Square Garden against the Phoenix Suns, which could mark Brunson’s earliest return opportunity.
