Trae Young to Stay Sidelined Until After All-Star Break

Washington Wizards guard Trae Young will not be reevaluated until after the NBA’s All-Star break as he recovers from right MCL and quad injuries, ESPN’s Shams Charania reported. The timetable rules Young out for at least the next 15 games.
Injury history this season
Young sprained his right MCL in late October, forcing him to miss 22 consecutive games. He returned in mid-December and appeared in five of Atlanta’s next six contests before sustaining a right quad contusion. That injury sidelined him for his final six games with the Hawks.
Plan following trade to Washington
When Washington acquired the two-time All-Star last week, reports suggested his minutes would be limited during the season’s second half. The Wizards own a top-eight protected first-round pick in 2026 and are focused on Young’s impact in 2026-27 and beyond.
League oversight
Because Young has already returned from his MCL sprain and a contusion rarely requires a lengthy absence, the NBA is expected to monitor Washington’s handling of the situation. Under the league’s player participation policy, teams cannot keep a healthy star out for extended periods without risk of investigation. To date, there is no indication the league has opened a probe.
