The Chicago Bulls announced on Thursday that Derrick Rose’s No. 1 jersey will be lifted to the United Center rafters during a ceremony on Jan. 24, 2026, when the team hosts the Boston Celtics.

Fifth Jersey Retirement in Franchise History

Rose will become the fifth Bulls player to receive the honor, joining Jerry Sloan (No. 4), Bob Love (No. 10), Michael Jordan (No. 23) and Scottie Pippen (No. 33).

The organization previously celebrated the former point guard last January after he announced his retirement, a tribute that included Chicago’s mayor declaring Jan. 4 “Derrick Rose Day.”

Retirement and Ongoing Tributes

Rose officially stepped away from the NBA on Sept. 24, 2024. “Knowing that I gave my all to the game, I feel confident in my decision,” he told ESPN at the time, adding that he wanted to devote more time to his family.

The Bulls plan to honor Rose throughout the 2025-26 season, including four additional home dates featuring a limited-edition figurine giveaway while supplies last.

Career Highlights

Selected first overall in the 2008 draft out of the University of Memphis, the Chicago native won Rookie of the Year honors in 2008-09 and was an All-Star in each of the next three seasons. At age 22, he became the youngest Most Valuable Player in league history after averaging 25.0 points, 4.1 rebounds and 7.7 assists during the 2010-11 campaign, leading Chicago to a 62-20 record and an Eastern Conference finals berth.

An ACL tear in the 2012 playoffs sidelined him for the entire 2012-13 season and limited him to 10 games in 2013-14. The Bulls traded him to the New York Knicks in 2016, and he later spent time with the Cavaliers, Timberwolves, Pistons and Grizzlies.

Across 15 NBA seasons and 723 regular-season games (518 starts), Rose averaged 17.4 points, 3.2 rebounds and 5.2 assists while shooting 45.6 percent from the field. His single-game high came on Oct. 31, 2018, when he scored 50 points for Minnesota in a win over the Utah Jazz.
