Rudy Gobert Draws Automatic One-Game Suspension After Fifth Flagrant Foul

Minnesota Timberwolves center Rudy Gobert will be sidelined for one game after reaching the NBA’s six-point threshold for flagrant fouls, according to The Athletic’s Jon Krawczynski.
The latest point was assessed Sunday in the fourth quarter of Minnesota’s win over the San Antonio Spurs, when Gobert was called for a Flagrant Foul 1 on a reckless closeout against Victor Wembanyama’s three-point attempt. Wembanyama landed on Gobert’s foot, briefly flexed his ankle on the floor and continued playing without apparent injury.
The 33-year-old now has five flagrant fouls this season—four ruled Flagrant 1 and one Flagrant 2 from an earlier matchup with the Phoenix Suns—totaling six flagrant points. League rules impose an automatic one-game suspension once a player hits that mark.
Gobert is expected to serve the suspension Tuesday when the Timberwolves host the Milwaukee Bucks. As noted by Chris Hine of the Star Tribune, any additional flagrant foul during the remainder of the regular season would elevate Gobert to an automatic two-game suspension; the count resets at the start of the playoffs.
