Bucks Eye Trade for Ja Morant

The Milwaukee Bucks have emerged as a suitor for Memphis Grizzlies point guard Ja Morant, multiple league sources told Jim Owczarski of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.

Morant, a two-time All-Star, is expected to miss his fifth consecutive game on Sunday against the Brooklyn Nets because of a right calf contusion, according to the NBA’s official injury report.

This marks the first definitive report linking Milwaukee to the 25-year-old guard, who is available on the trade market. Morant is earning approximately $39.5 million this season and is under contract through the 2027-28 campaign.

To meet salary-matching requirements, a potential Bucks offer would likely begin with forward Kyle Kuzma and his $22.4 million salary, with additional players needed to balance the deal.

Milwaukee views Morant as a possible buy-low addition as the franchise looks to rejoin the Eastern Conference elite around two-time MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo. However, fit questions remain: Morant has struggled with perimeter shooting, and the Bucks’ next two most productive players this season outside Antetokounmpo have been point guards Ryan Rollins and Kevin Porter Jr.

Owczarski adds that the Bucks are also monitoring Sacramento Kings shooting guard Zach LaVine. Milwaukee has been tied to several Kings players, though the two clubs were not engaged in active trade discussions as of last week.
