Toronto Raptors wing RJ Barrett exited Friday night’s road game against the Boston Celtics after spraining his left ankle in the final minutes of the fourth quarter.
Barrett rolled the ankle when he landed on Sam Hauser’s foot and immediately limped to the locker room in visible pain. The 25-year-old was ruled out for the remainder of the contest and will undergo further evaluation, the team said.
Before the injury, Barrett had logged 19 points, seven assists and four rebounds in 28 minutes. He previously missed a significant stretch earlier this season with a right knee sprain.
Toronto was already short three starters. Center Jakob Poeltl sat out his ninth straight game with a back issue, though he participated in light practice Thursday and is nearing a return. Forward Scottie Barnes (right knee sprain) and guard Brandon Ingram (right thumb sprain) were both late scratches after being listed as questionable and are considered day-to-day.
With the roster depleted, recent first-round picks JaKobe Walter and Gradey Dick saw increased minutes, a situation that could continue should Barrett or other regulars remain sidelined.
