The Indiana Pacers absorbed their seventh straight defeat on Friday night, surrendering a 140-122 decision to the Celtics at TD Garden. Boston led by as many as 28 points, shot 57 percent from the floor and hit 20 three-pointers.

Players call for greater urgency

Guard Andrew Nembhard said the club’s effort has to be sustained for 48 minutes. “Guys are fighting at times, but it’s not consistent,” he told reporters. Rookie forward Jarace Walker echoed that sentiment, noting that Indiana must “get uncomfortable” and impact games in ways that go beyond shot-making.

Wiseman waived after five days

Center James Wiseman, signed on Dec. 20, was released because his 10-day contract ran through Dec. 30 while the hardship exception that allowed the deal expired on Dec. 25, according to beat writer Tony East.

Injury progress for Nesmith, Sheppard

Head coach Rick Carlisle said guard Ben Sheppard (calf strain) and forward Aaron Nesmith (left knee sprain) are advancing through rehab programs that include “strategically planned” workouts. Nesmith, sidelined since Nov. 13, could return before the end of the month. Sheppard has been out since Dec. 3.

Travel hiccup to Miami

Indiana completes a back-to-back set Saturday against the Heat. The Pacers did not arrive in Miami until the early hours of the morning after their flight was delayed nearly two hours, per Fieldhouse Files.

The matchup with Miami tips off Saturday night as Indiana seeks to halt its longest losing streak of the season.
